CRISTIANO POLETO - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul | LinkedIn

Projet de recherche intitulé : water resources management and hydrosedimentology, with nearly 20 years of experience addressing urban pollution, sediment dynamics, and sustainable water management.

  • Floods in southern Brazil in 2024 and 2025 (This presentation will examine the devastating floods that struck southern Brazil in 2024 and 2025. It will highlight the social, economic, and environmental impacts, as well as the challenges faced by local communities. The talk will also explore government responses, humanitarian aid, and lessons learned. Finally, it will discuss strategies for resilience and adaptation to future climate-related disasters.)

  • Studies on water resources management in southern Brazil (This presentation will focus on studies related to water resources management in southern Brazil. It will address the region’s hydrological challenges, including scarcity, floods, and competing demands. The talk will highlight research on sustainable practices, policy frameworks, and technological innovations. Finally, it will explore strategies to balance environmental preservation with social and economic needs.)

  • Hydrosedimentology and siltation problems in Brazil (This presentation will address hydrosedimentology and the challenges of siltation in Brazil. It will examine sediment transport processes in rivers and reservoirs, emphasizing their impacts on water quality, infrastructure, and ecosystems. The talk will highlight case studies of critical regions, where siltation has affected energy generation and navigation. Finally, it will explore management strategies and scientific approaches to mitigate these problems.)

  • Pollutants associated with aquatic sediments (This presentation will explore pollutants associated with aquatic sediments and their implications for water quality and ecosystem health. It will examine how contaminants such as heavy metals, nutrients, and organic compounds accumulate in sediments. The talk will highlight case studies showing their effects on biodiversity and human activities. Finally, it will discuss monitoring techniques and strategies for pollution control and remediation.).

  • Mini-course (8 hours) on Hydrosedimentology (This presentation will focus on hydrosedimentology, the study of sediment transport and deposition in aquatic systems. It will examine how sediment dynamics influence river morphology, reservoir capacity, and water quality. The talk will highlight Brazilian case studies where sedimentation poses significant challenges. Finally, it will discuss scientific approaches and management strategies to address these issues effectively).
